Maybe there's some hope for the children of the USA and they're not all dumb downed by the education system? That's my hope at least when I see this from such a brilliant woman!

Or so I think you are!! Maybe I'm off based though!! HAHA. Great to see you share other things about your life on this platform!! I hope my message feels appropriate!!
Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16727212475858505605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189875022254484779.post-57282458959169034002021-04-18T16:20:10.651-04:002021-04-18T16:20:10.651-04:00Congrats - way to go. Interesting how you describe the differences between the adult and child opponents. Congratulations for getting out there and doing something completely different- as you said, you have to start somewhere! You might have the very first running/chess blog (you might have to change the name, though!)Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08118496863906264340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189875022254484779.post-38819174847319104862021-04-12T22:42:48.755-04:002021-04-12T22:42:48.755-04:00For some reason I really want to know more about t...For some reason I really want to know more about this whole tournament world. It's all new to me, and fascinating! I think the idea of a competition in which your opponent may be any age is what interests me - the player has developed a level of maturity in the game that may not match his true age and maturity in other ways, and that's a rare thing. Usually skill can be related to physical ability (which changes with age) and/or mental ability. But I usually think of mental ability as including not just learned skills, but also overall functioning: the ability to sustain concentration, to handle emotions, to overcome tiredness, and ignore distractions. Those behaviors come with age in many cases, so I wonder if these young chess players are exceptionally self-aware and mature, or if they are so skilled that they can overcome the handicap of youth? Hm, so interesting to me! I heard Jeannie Rice on a podcast once (70-something marathoner with a ton of world records who's still getting faster) and when they asked her how long she plans to keep running, she said something along the lines of "well no one runs marathons when they are 100". But you're right there's no age limit on chess. More importantly, it's super cool.Birchwood Piehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01504702778025456387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189875022254484779.post-18527811144380000912021-04-07T15:09:19.738-04:002021-04-07T15:09:19.738-04:00This is a side of "Boston-Bound" Zebra r...This is a side of "Boston-Bound" Zebra runner-woman that is unexpected and quite unique. And you approach it just like you do with the running with discipline and goals! Try to enjoy it, though your "competitive nature" appears going to prevail. Geez, no big deal your losses were to youthful chess enthusiasts. Keep in mind they at far different phase in learning and cognitive development than you as mature adult, and consequently their approach and analysis how to plan, defend or attack in the game going to be different than the mature adult mind. If you want to win against those youths, then just master the skills and art and strategy of chess, which I know nothing about, and in the end, mastering the skill of that game, in the end, is what matters and makes the difference recording a win vs loss. That was an awesome attack with Queen to create checkmate in 12 moves!
