Unfortunately this was not weather for socializing. I fully expected there to be some indoor venue (Clyde's) for us to get our bibs from and then hang out afterwards. But oh well. It was obviously a net even elevation but felt like there was so much more uphill! I...This is definitely a post I have to make my say! Impressed with your approach and you have your training results and your goal expectations heading into race...those high-intensity training runs of longer tempo distance...I believe I gave some awesome comments about in prior. Your Coach advised you of the terrain factors and not to expect PR. I ignore the terrain and just consider the weather...namely temperature and wind chill effects...and it doesn't matter how well attired you were...you simply cannot run best performance in such cold and wind...simply put. But what remains most impressive...is your attitude and your perspective...both going into and your description of the mile by mile progress...but more so...your "acceptance" of end results. Proud of that in you...as you definitely have discovered who you as runner are and only what you have to do to be the runner you are! I guess that is the results of all those sessions with that therapist....but some reason...I think you knew all this far longer back than maybe your Boston book would indicate. Doesn't matter...you went in to race with "high-spirits-attitude"...you ran the race as best you can...you finished and gladly accept the results...that's all there is to this runner-racer-thing! You run the race against yourself...you strive to be your best...run your fastest...or run your best...given the inevitable variables all runners...elite...competitive...mid-pack...or back-pack...all face...in every race. You come a long way in your pursuit of the Unicorn...and from what I see...you have learned accordingly...what running is all about...simply striving to do your best...that you be! I saw you warming up while we were on our warmup run, but you were just ahead of us and I thought I'd say hi to you later. Right after I crossed the finish line I saw you and your husband running toward your car so I missed you again!

When I heard that the course was going to be the reverse of the Jingle Bell Jog I was happy until I drove it. I don't remember that course being so easy in reverse... While writing my recap yesterday (I haven't finished it), I was amazed at how much I used uphill, slight upward grade, rolling hills, and hardly used downhill...

My husband was out on the course shooting pictures - mostly of my friends and me, but decided to take some of the leaders, too. He sent Lesley (the race director) about 75 pictures this morning. I don't think she's posted them yet... This weather is really sucking the life out of all of us! I did a treatmill run last week and it was awful. Today I finally sucked it up and ran outside in the subzero temps. I was with my friend and the sun was shining--it wasn't awful. Ok, then. I can do this. So can you!Wendy at Taking the Long Way Homehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09934786207724059919noreply@blogger.com
