And I did race in the humidity last weekend and it was brutal! Not something I want to repeat anytime soon!Mommy Run Fasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02172007555251749935noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189875022254484779.post-58740717806225248572017-09-13T09:41:00.607-04:002017-09-13T09:41:00.607-04:00Great post and I am encouraged to see you finally ...Great post and I am encouraged to see you finally accepting yourself as a "mortal runner"...more so in recognition the race isn't always just about getting a PR! Congrats for you....perhaps your most valuable lesson/experience to savor!

And at times you seem to worry too much about the impending race and focus too much on the training you did and all these "what-if" or "could-be" scenarios. I am sure you also take home a lesson...worrying does nothing to benefit you in the outcome...if not hinders your abilities.

And in my experience it is always "humbling" when the pace groups start passing you and finally recognize that whatever plans or strategy and hopes you held for the race, will become simply a drive to just finish what you started....and accept the reality just not your day. When those pace groups catch me and steadily move beyond me, before they pass I try to keep my head up high, look at them and give them a shout-out to "keep-it-up and stay strong!"

The beauty of your half-marathon is that you didn't get the PR, but that you made the decision to do this race because you simply wanted to, and you accept that and its outcome. And so there will be more races in the future, and you will savor it more when the next PR or high-level performance happens.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189875022254484779.post-54519231005220541122017-09-12T07:43:07.869-04:002017-09-12T07:43:07.869-04:0060 miles in a week is just incredible - and doing ...60 miles in a week is just incredible - and doing a very respectable half time at the end! Girl you rock. It's a tough mental game this running business but it sounds like you have a fantastic and knowledgeable support base to help you. It sounds like you still got a lot of benefit out of this race mentally, it will prepare you for things like the final miles of marathons and you did get your long training run in for the week. I love it when races give good swag or have different courses- if nothing else you got to run somewhere different and new to you.

The pics of you are really good too and I love your Mizuno Elixir shoes... I miss those shoes! They were so fun looking :).Amy Lauren Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02565049872858950707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189875022254484779.post-41407196872283898482017-09-10T17:32:10.876-04:002017-09-10T17:32:10.876-04:00A half at the end of a 60 mile week is pretty drai...A half at the end of a 60 mile week is pretty draining! But I think I would have made the same decision as you. It's so rare to get perfect running weather, and hot races are the worst. But either option is a good training stimulus. After all, the weather was perfect! I think you've been really planning your training and your races to the very final detail and you just winged this one. Maybe it didn't go as well as you had hoped but in this case, finishing was winning. That's what I've been doing for a while and I write about it today as well. Unfortunately, I've come to the realization that I need to stick to a training plan if I want to run a decent race. Your experience was just what I needed to read because it made me realize that this stuff happens to everyone. Congrats on sticking with it and finishing.Wendy at Taking the Long Way Homehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09934786207724059919noreply@blogger.com
