I loved playing the piano so there could be some relationship there.Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06265175590096078175noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189875022254484779.post-23949795835314584282017-02-14T15:20:05.181-05:002017-02-14T15:20:05.181-05:00Thanks for reading. Yeah, I get really excited when my coach sends me my training plan because I see that new challenges are ahead and I wonder how I will be able to tackle them. I used to see it as investing so much time into a single performance. Now I see it as investing time in doing what I love and enjoying the journey to the marathon. I'll definitely taper before the race to make sure my legs are fully recovered and I'm highly energized!Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06265175590096078175noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189875022254484779.post-56216324597905611312017-02-14T15:18:18.413-05:002017-02-14T15:18:18.413-05:00I just finished reading your weekly recap and I re...I just finished reading your weekly recap and I really think you have the right approach. Greg often reminds me that the people who "can't wait to see me crush it" would still support me and like me even if I didn't - they just want me to succeed and be happy. Funny how it's not natural for me to think of it that way, but it's starting to become moreso. The foot pain is gone. Thank God!!Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06265175590096078175noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189875022254484779.post-26433053946681002712017-02-14T15:16:46.225-05:002017-02-14T15:16:46.225-05:00I hope your foot feels okay now. You mention word "tenacity" and I myself where around my neck a silver cast claw of a badger I found dead side of the road years ago. Had the claw made to a mold, then artist-jeweler cast its replica in sterling silver. Why? Because later on...after collecting that single fore-claw...I discovered that my way of being was like a badger...dig-in, claw-hard, fight your way to what you want to be or achieve. So the Badger was one of my totem animals that exemplified the same word you cite...tenacity! I hope that Elizabeth pays attention to this response...cause I know her big totem as animal is zebra. And that is a "herd" animal...but it is the stripes she emphasizes which is her blog site title. I won't profess to even speculate what the power of zebra does for Elizabeth...but do note she may not recognize another animal out there she shares commonality with...badger...powerful forelegs and huge fore claws...focused and dig-in when after there quarry...seems to me...she shares those traits! This may come as strange response...but you have to understand "animal speak" and "totem"...its meaning and significance to self. But yes...she has tenacity and more!Froggerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02269761005612834052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2189875022254484779.post-68175470312112599612017-02-13T15:39:35.459-05:002017-02-13T15:39:35.459-05:00Congrats on another great week! You are in superb performance capacity...far better than I was when I was in my peak and top form back in 2011. I still have to finish the last section of your book, but I can see from this and prior posts, that you have found the positive balance between you, your training and the desired outcome (time goal). Cheers to you on that and look forward to reading the details as your book portrays that "breakthrough" in your psyche. Smart approach to that Chicago Marathon...just run it to finish with no hard time goal! Keep it up with your approach, but that foot "talking back to you" might be saying maybe consider actually tapering a bit heading into final 2 weeks..as opposed to full-blown anti-taper. All of us are "Running After Antelope" (Mark Carrier, the book a good read too)...chasing our dreams in one way or the other. You have the training and the psychological frame of mind to do your best...whatever the finish time outcome ends up. Race it one foot in front of the other, one mile at a time, 26 little races, strung together. I quoted this before, but still going to state it again as a reminder - "Start where you are, bring what you have, do what you can" (Arthur Ashe). You did the training, "believe" in that and yourself. Run a great race, but some good luck wishes, can't hurt! Between a crazy ankle/lower leg pain that came on and a cold/congestion, I called my week a wash on Thursday and said screw it and cross trained the rest of the week. I'm really ready to run again soon though, maybe tomorrow.

Until I hurt my knee in November, I was really worried about running, races, and expectations. Now, I just don't care. Yes, people follow my blog (not like they follow you, but still I have a decent amount of readers) but ultimately, I don't care. I'm just enjoying the process and trusting the times will come. I am sure most people with their eyes on you, people like me who are looking forward to see how you do at MB... we're on your side. I know I've been reading since before you were this fast and always loved following YOU, not your race times or mileage. And we totally understand if you do have a bad race, and how if that happened, you'd be disappointed. We have all been there. But after all your bad races in the past, you've kept going and so have the rest of us. None of us get paid to run and are ultimately doing it for enjoyment, anyway.

I've been to MIA and you are smart not to run there alone. I hope the foot pain is nothing, too. Too close to MB for either of us to have issues! Nooooooooo! It's time to change shoes, so I'm going to do that this week. Fingers crossed I can nip it in the bud.
